There seems to be no end to all the decisions you make when having a new baby. From choosing a name, breast or bottle feeding, circumcise or not, these are things you have possibly never thought of because you never had to.
Cloth vs Disposable - Have you thought about diapering? Most people haven't considered any other option than disposable. You will spend the next two or three years on average buying, changing, and throwing away diapers. Newborns can go through 80 diapers a week. That is a lot of diapers! Here are some of the main reasons families choose to cloth diaper.
Cost - With our service you get a flat rate of $100 per month plus delivery (we do offer a discount if you prepay for 6 or 12 months). With disposables, you are throwing away money every time you throw away a disposable diaper.
Chemicals in disposable diapers - Disposable diapers contain sodium polyacrylate, a type of super absorbent polymer, which becomes a gel-like substance when wet. It is not uncommon for diapers to tear and you will find this gel substance on baby's skin. Babies can also have allergies to dyes, perfumes and other ingredients used in disposable diapers.
Waste - If you are not comfortable thinking of all those disposable diapers going into the landfill each year, cloth is your best option. Not only are all those diapers going into landfills but also solid human waste. While the packaging suggests dumping the waste into the toilet most parents don't and haven't even heard that is what your are supposed to do. The numbers of diapers are staggering. It is estimated that 27.4 billion disposable diapers are used each year in the US, resulting in a possible 3.4 million tons of used diapers adding to landfills each year. In the lowcountry, each baby will use about 2,200 diapers in the first year. That is 2,200 diapers that go into lowcountry landfills for ONE baby in ONE year. Our goal is to save 1000's of diapers from going into our landfills and from polluting the beautiful area we live in. We strive to reduce waste and are proud to be a member of the Charleston Climate Coalition as one of their Green Businesses for Climate Change
Convenience - We deliver to you! No rushing to the store because you are almost out of diapers, no additional loads of laundry, and no need for a diaper genie and bags. Cotton cloth diapers will be delivered to your door each week. You don’t even need to be home, just leave them on your porch for pick up. You will benefit from our service because WE do the dirty work! We provide you with cloth diapers, wash them for you, and deliver them fresh and clean to your home each week. We take care of everything! We show you exactly what to do when we come out to deliver your Starter Package and first set of diapers. Just put the dirty diapers in the waterproof pail liner. Set out on pick up/deliver day and we will do the rest.
Potty Training - Cloth diaper babies are potty trained an average 6 months earlier than babies that wear disposables. The instant feeling of being wet and dirty is recognized earlier and your little one will tell you which is the beginning of the process.
